Ray left out a couple:
# 9.... It's an addiction.
# 10.... Too lazy to work, too nervous to steal.
Actually when I filled the poll out the first time I had to reset it because I realized I had marked every box.
The reason I began competing in 1999 was to prove myself against the Oklahoma Joes and Head Countrys of the world. I still do, but over the years reasons change. I always want to learn to cook better. I have met the best people in the world competing. Friendships that I cherish. The Friday night eats and drinks deserve a checkmark. I like to cook the one horse town cartoon camp contests as well as the big ones. When you get into a rythym of competing regularly, you look at the purses as well as the points. Cooker friendly contests play a part as to where to cook next. And yes it is a business. I treat it as advertising and research and development for my catering business and rub sales.
But to be fair to the poll and check only one, the main reason I cook is to prove myself.
