BBQ is an expensive hobby and it's getting more and more expensive all the time. I'd like to know how many contests those that said they do it for fun attended last year. I think that would put some of the results of the poll into context.
I am guessing that those that said they do it for money also cook more contests. Good for you if you don't compete in contests for money, but if it weren't for the money, I think the popularity of the events would decline quickly.
It might be entirely different if there were no entry fees to compete. Without entry fees I think you'd see a lot more competitors and fewer contests.
I don't know about you, but I'm not independently wealthy and in my house the bbq habit has to pay for itself, or the bbq has to stop.
