I checked most of the boxes too, but surely checked to win money. Like Rub, my bbq habit has to be self-supporting. I don't win very much $ or very often, and with three 5 year olds I can't leave town 20 times a year. When deciding on just a few comps every year, I have to take into account payout, but also the facilities and distance travelled plays a big part.
I would definitely have second thoughts about going to a comp with 70 teams and a low (5k) payout) as someone else mentioned.
