I am just the opposite. I have never chosen one contest over another because of the pay out. Most of the time, I don't know what the payoff will be. My wife and I love the competition and the company of fellow competitors. It costs me between $800.00 to $1000.00 per contest with all that is needed. I take the day off before the contest to get ready and load the equipment. When I ran the bars, I would easily spend $100.00 to $200.00 per night, and have to wake up feeling lousy. Now, I have a great time doing contests. From my point of view, a lot less money, and more fun. I don't know of many hobbies that are cheap, or ones that are better than the friendship that comes from sharing great food and great times with friends from all over the country.
