A few years ago we competed in 12 contests (4 were on back to back weekends in a row). Just on the entry fees alone we spent $3,000-$3,600, not counting gas and meat. If it weren't for the prize money we were able to win that supplemented the entry fees there would have been no way I could or wouuld have committed $10,000 to bbq in a 12-month period.
