I think that you may be missing my point. If KCBS adopted a policy tomorrow that none of the contests they saction will be allowed to offer prize money to contestants. The next day we would be overrun with people setting up sactioning bodies with no such prohibition and in my opinion KCBS would cease to exist, right. Well if you agree with that assessment then you agree that Qers as a group do it for the possibility of winning a monetary prize.
Secondly "low payout" is just a matter of prespective I don't think a contest that has a Grand Champion prize of 4 or 5 times the entry fee is a low payout contest. To some people I'm sure it is.
