Pellet cookers are in because the conformed to KCBS rules, and I would not want to throw out a whole section of the existing community, with so many teams having invested thousands of dollars, plus the method obviously can produce a high quality product.
Teams have not invested money in competition gas-run equipment, and while gassers make decent food, few people would argue that they make a better product. In addition, given the option some will cook without any wood flavoring at all, and at this point I am bold to say that it is no longer bbq and should not be allowed.
