I don't agree that the tanks are the problem. Most, if not all, propane tanks are under regulations for their design an safety. I think the problems with propane in pits is the use of an emergency cutoff when a flameout situation occurs fill the cavity(pit) with gas and someone lights it or there is a spark and then there is a much bigger spark. I use gas assist on my Klose mobile at contests to get it started and that's it. I never leave it unattended while on. I know some people will leave them on at home and cook with the gas but I don't feel comfortable doing that and wouldn't cook with gas at a comp even if allowed. Add alcohol to any part of the equation and you better have 911 on speed dial.
